Austin is considered a liberal, progressive city with a diverse population, but that hasn't stopped Asian Americans from being the victim of hate crimes associated with the coronavirus pandemic. Hundreds of supporters gathered at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin to condemn recent attacks against Asian Americans, including a shooting in Atlanta that killed six women of Asian descent. Since March 2020, the organization has received 70 reports of hate crimes from Texas, eighteen of which were in Austin.
